Joanne Smith graduated with a B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1982. In 1991, she was one of the first Therapists in Vancouver to receive her Hand Therapy Certification. Since 1993, Joanne has worked in private practice. Her clinical work focuses on elbow, forearm and hand injuries, ranging from post-operative rehabilitation to treatment of repetitive stress injuries. Her greatest expertise and professional passion is to custom-design and fabricate splints. Additionally, she consults to industry on workplace ergonomics and return-to-work programs. Joanne also offers presentations to industry, health care professionals, and the public, on various aspects of hand therapy practice. Recreationally, Joanne enjoys hiking, listening to classical music, doing home exchanges in other countries, and spending time with her family.
